Why Give?

At La Palapa, more than 600 students and community members participate in our programs each year. While families contribute only a symbolic recovery fee, the real cost of materials, teachers, and classes is covered entirely through donations.

Thanks to your support, children, youth, and adults gain access to:
Books and culture at the Elena Poniatowska Library.

  • A second language through Puente al Inglés.
  • Music and art with the Peter Buck Program.
  • Scholarships that accompany them every step of the way, thanks to you.

This holiday season, we invite you to give the gift of opportunity. Your donation ensures that hundreds of students can keep learning, growing, and dreaming across different areas of education and culture.

Story of Elizabeth

Elizabeth Pérez, from Todos Santos, always dreamed of studying, but her hardworking family’s limited resources barely covered basic needs. Through La Palapa’s Scholarship Program, she was able to complete high school and then university, becoming a teacher and later director of a preschool in her hometown. The support not only eased the financial burden but also gave her the confidence to build a better future.

As she formed her family, she sought the same opportunities for her children. She enrolled her daughter Maya in Puente al Inglés and later at La Palapa School, where Maya now attends middle school with a scholarship and excellent results. Her younger son is preparing to follow the same path. Elizabeth herself decided to study English through Puente al Inglés to grow professionally and offer more tools to the families she serves.

Today, Elizabeth is also an active member of Solifa, the Family Leaders’ Society that collaborates with La Palapa School. Her story shows how La Palapa transforms generations: from a scholarship student to a mother inspiring her children and community, Elizabeth proves that education opens doors and builds hopeful futures.

Story of Fátima

My name is Fátima González, I’m 13 years old, and since joining the music program with Professor Leo, my view of music has completely changed. I’ve learned what music represents in each historical period, the different styles, and—most importantly—the value of reading and writing musical notation correctly.

I’m currently learning to play the electric bass with proper technique, something I never imagined I could achieve. Each class motivates me to keep exploring this world that I’m passionate about. For me, music is no longer just entertainment—it’s a path of learning and a way to grow.

Story of Rodrigo

My name is Rodrigo González, I’m 15 years old, and through the Peter Buck Program I’ve discovered the richness hidden within music. During the course, I’ve learned to recognize and appreciate different composers and their styles—from the depth of Bach to the sensitivity of Debussy, the freedom of the Blues, and the creativity of contemporary music.

The most exciting part is that now, together with my classmates and my sister, we’re forming a band in class. I’m learning to play guitar, to listen to others, and to create harmony together. This program has not only taught me music theory—it has given me the opportunity to live music in a practical, shared, and emotional way.

Story of Jocelyn

Hello, my name is Jocelyn, and I am proudly a “Palapera.” This week is all about giving thanks: for your donations, your time, your love, and your effort. Because of you, the lives of so many young people in Todos Santos have changed for the better. La Palapa is not just a school; it is a family that helps us grow as students and as people.

Our teachers and staff push us to dream big, even when our goals seem impossible. I remember a friend who told me: “Without La Palapa, I wouldn’t be studying i would be working.” She was part of the robotics team that won a regional trophy, something made possible thanks to scholarships and your support. Opportunities like this inspire us to believe in ourselves.

Today, I speak on behalf of my classmates to say that your support is not just a number it is something we feel in every exam, soccer game, and science project. You are part of this family, and we will never forget you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being the reason behind our dreams.

Story of Laura

My name is Laura Barranco, and I studied six years at La Palapa School thanks to a scholarship. When I started middle school, I thought my biggest goal would be finishing high school and working as a waitress or in a store. I never imagined a different future, or that I could aspire to more.

At La Palapa, everything changed. My teachers helped me discover my abilities, taught me to observe and find solutions for my community, and encouraged me to believe in myself. Along the way, I found my true vocation: psychology. Each opportunity and every bit of support showed me that I could dream big.

Today, I am in Puebla, starting my first day at the University of the Americas (UDLAP). This dream is possible because someone believed in me and chose to support me. Your donation did more than give me an education it gave me the chance to change my life forever.
